DAY 7 MARCH 31
Main Hospital across the courtyard from us
Nurse Station
My Room is the door just past the clock. I think they put me by the nurse's station because they thought I would be high maintenance because I am from California
Seating Area
Breakfast today
Lunch-Meatloaf Carrots Bread Bean and Potato Soup and I don't really know what the other thing was. It was all good though
So today was basically lather, rinse, repeat. I will have 4-6 days of this until I produce enough stem cells. Getting a shot at 3am not a highlight.
The hospital staff really warms up to us with time. Very attentive and kind.
It is nice because there are basically 4 different waves. People that are entering, people at my stage (stem cell generation), Chemo people and finally stem cell re-introduction and isolation. Very helpful to talk to other patients and compare notes. The interesting thing is how it is mostly the same treatment but everyone reacts so differently. Several patients got the stem cells in one day, others 3 days. Some people cruise through chemo and others struggle. Amazing to watch the medical staff adapt and make it all work.
The food thing is funny too. There are many opinions out there about what people with auto-immune diseases should be eating. For the past one and a half years I have basically just been eating fruit, vegetables and meat. No gluten or dairy or sugar. I have not really noticed any difference. I may need to step it up to another level. I will have to say it definitely is a better way to eat. Very inconvenient initially. Just funny how passionate people get over it. Then you have others like Frank who is getting his Coke, chocolates and meatballs. Honestly, everyone is different and who knows what is the "right" thing. I do agree with the premise that food is one of the tools in the toolbox.
The weather was really nice today. Blue skies and warm. Went for a short walk around the complex.
Finally Russian is a Cyrillic language. There are crazy characters. I always look at labels and notes thinking I will know what it says and then realize it is a lost cause. I can't even tell what flavor the yogurt is. Anything wrapped or packaged is a mystery.
ReplyDeleteloving paul's eye view. I think you need to write a book about life and indeed food is one of the tools in the toolbox
I think your right something to be said about food~~however the food their giving you looks fantastic and pleasing. I worked in the medical field with a couple of people from Russian and they were so kind, gentle and very, very smart! The facilities look very nice clean and sounds like they’re taking goo care of you!
ReplyDeleteI attempted to send you a comment in Russian, those crazy characters were having none of it.😂
ReplyDeleteNo breakfast hot dog today. Such a shame.
